for alarmel valli and madhavi mudgal
the sacred rhythm that sprung from you
the bright light that shone through you
the grace and the impossible ease
the humility despite the mastery
i absorbed these, and more
you called, i listened
you mesmerised, i was stilled
you transported, i flowed
you reminded, i accepted
and now
i try to capture it all again
but in vain
inspired by a dance dialogue between valli (bharatnatyam) and mudgal (odissi); i have not felt so moved since i saw the dolphins.

Annoying, isnt it? But wouldnt you agree that to truly experience stillness and flow, you need nothing, absolutely nothing? The whole world of forms is such a distraction!
I changed my name.:)
i noticed :) in my short blog-life, you've changed names thrice, but i cant get over vb.:)what triggered the name tho'...a song or lyrics?
yes the world of forms is a distraction, but also a path for me. esp in my weaker moments when i can't experience formlessness. then, even relative stillness and flow offers respite.

Yes, I know what you are saying.
Name change? Pure whimsy. The words come from a Grateful Dead song (surprise!).
Long years ago, around the time I was just starting off, I worked as an assistant on a series of films on classical dances of India. The films, made for the ICCR, were what we called lec-dems (lecture-demonstrations). One of those films was about Odissi and guess who featured in it...Madhavi Mudgal! :-) Apart from her obvious dancing abilities, I also remember her as a quiet, graceful person.
vb, sorry can't call u ws, :)
ghost,yr profession exposes you to some wonderful opportunities!! would have loved to watch her lec-dem.
